Raymond W. Johnson, 72, a resident of the Lake view Manor in Hancock, passed away Wednesday evening December 2, 2009, at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell where he had been a patient for the past month.
He was born on January 29, 1937, in Chassell a son of the late Wilbert and Bertha (Halgren) Johnson. As a child he moved with his family to the Detroit area where he attended school.
Ray had worked on the Great Lakes as a Seaman and then for the City of Detroit on Belle Isle designing displays for the Nature Center. He retired in 1991 and moved back to the Copper Country and made his home at the Lake View Manor in Hancock.
Raymond enjoyed reading books on philosophy, literature of several subjects, history, and religions. He also was a great artist having painted several unique subjects.
Preceding him in death were his parents his step father Adolph Adamson, his son Daryl, and a special brother-in-law; R. Terry Lambert.
Surviving are:
His sister: Sandra Lambert of Ishpeming his brother David and sister-in-law Phyllis Adamson of Hancock who assisted him with his illness during his last years, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Per his wishes no visitation or service will be held for Raymond.
Ray's family would like to thank Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home for their wonderful care given to Raymond & also the concern & respect for the family from the entire staff, all shifts, from the R.N'S, Aides, management, kitchen, maintenance & cleaning personal and to Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice. You all have a special place in our hearts & will not be forgotten.
